Responding to Student Behavior Judicial AcademicConcerning

Campus Assessment, Response, and Evaluation Each campus (including ELI) has a CARE team CARE team mission Prevent violence Provide a systematic response to students whose behavior is disruptive to themselves, to others, or to the community

This is not a disciplinary program but rather an early intervention program that can assist students and faculty avert a crisis situation

Three-part Structure CARE teams Threat Assessment Team Violence Prevention and Education Committee

CARE Teams Respond to faculty, staff and student concerns Assess threat level Develop and oversee implementation of response plan DOS, Police, Student Services, Faculty

Threat Assessment Team Provide guidance and intervention when threat level is elevated Police Chief, AVP, SMH&B (Director and Case Manager), HR, Legal Affairs,

Violence Prevention and Education Committee Recommend policies and protocols Facilitate college-wide communication and coordination Oversee educational activities on all campuses

Examples of Concerning Behavior Classroom disruption Change in attitude Unusual behavior Disruption of the learning environment Incoherent speech Violent behavior Negative change in academic performance Self-destructive behavior Writings that convey intentions to harm self or others

Reporting Concerning Behavior Reporting Form

Once a concern is forwarded to the campus, the campus team is responsible for the investigation and all follow up. All team members have been trained in using an assessment tool to identify concerning behavior and the level of risk involved.
