Studies in 1 Corinthians (57) We Shall All Be Changed 1 Cor. 15:50-58

Flesh and Blood Cannot Inherit  Cannot inherit the kingdom of God  Why? Corruption cannot inherit incorruption.

Flesh and Blood Cannot Inherit  We will be like Jesus!  He died and arose in a glorified state  1 Cor. 15:49  1 John 3:1-3

We Shall Not All Sleep  “I tell you a mystery”  A revelation, not previously revealed  Rom. 16:25-26, Eph. 3:3-4, 1 Cor. 2:7, 13:2

We Shall Not All Sleep  “I tell you a mystery”  Paul has revealed - How our resurrection is like the resurrection of Jesus - How we will be raised - Why a new body

We Shall Not All Sleep  “In a moment” ( 52 )  How quickly will the resurrection happen? ἄ τομος (atomos)

We Shall Not All Sleep  “At the last trumpet” ( 52 )  Descriptive of the judgment scene – 1 Thess. 4:13-18

We Shall Not All Sleep  “At the last trumpet” ( 52 )  The trumpet will sound 1 Thess. 4:16, Jn. 5:25  The dead will be raised incorruptible  We shall be changed ( 53 )

Victory over death ( )  When – these things happen ( 52 )  Death will be swallowed up in victory  Isaiah 25:8  Hosea 13:14

Victory over death ( )  The sting of death is sin - Death is punishment for sin ( 1 Cor. 15:22, cf. Rom. 5:12-21 )  The strength of sin is the law – because of law there is sin Rom 7:7, 3:20, 4:15  Is law bad? NOT at all!

Victory over death ( )  Thanks be to God – the solution!  Victory through Jesus Christ ( John 3:16 )

Therefore, be steadfast… ( 58 )  Because there is a resurrection, It matters how we live our lives  Be steadfast – moving ahead, not giving up Col. 1:23, Gal. 6:9, Heb. 12:1-2

Therefore, be steadfast… ( 58 )  Immovable – not shaken in one’s beliefs – Psa. 1:3, Eph. 4:14-15  Always abounding – considerably more than expected See 2 Pet. 1:5-11

Therefore, be steadfast… ( 58 )  Abounding in the work of the Lord – Eph. 2:10  Knowing your labor is not in vain in the Lord – our motivation

There is hope in the resurrection But only to those who have obeyed the gospel – Mk. 16:16, Ac. 2:38 And remain faithful! – Rev. 2:10

Where will you spend eternity?
