1.b. Pursue Shared Collections, with Alliance…explore at regional level. Include strategies for preserving “best, last” copy. ….statewide, regional or national collections….. Pat smith, Chris Sugnet

Many existing collaborations Prospector catalog for central access to state resources/seamless interlibrary loan Consortial purchasing to share titles/obtain larger discount – Alliance – CLIC – Minitex (higher ed & U. Minnesota) – CSU system purchasing with Pueblo – GWLA

Current Priorities/next steps Alliance (via Shared Collections Committee) – Pilot project to share approval plan—to reduce print copies in state (ceased) – E Book project with EBL under negotiation (high) For better discount and to share titles purchased among members – Taskforce for “Last, Best print copy” established (medium) Use Prospector to identify unique titles/583 field to record – Concepts in R2 report/shared purchase plan raised

Current Priorities/next steps cont. Colorado Documents Redundancy project/reduce duplicate documents (medium) GWLA (low) – Identification of publishers for print journal archive (last copy) – ADR’s?? Other consortia taking responsibility for journal archives (low) National Preservation efforts via Portico/Lockss/Clockss –CSU participates (high)

Difficulty/External Factors Consortial deals breaking up due to economy, publisher pressure Libraries fearful of losing local control of collections/faculty pressure Vendors/publishers reluctant to allow sharing of e books via ILL or among membership Collaboration requires legally binding agreements

Future collaborations? Expand collaboration with Global CSU & CSU- Pueblo? Joint Discoverability—Summon? Explore purchase plan via Alliance? Based on areas of strength? Create single-project consortia of peer institutions? Expand role/function of RAPID, e.g., to include last print copy record of journals? Other?
