Analysis: PD exists now Requests submitted by faculty/students Requests for ILL Requests ordered from ILL requests by Acquisitions Profiles in purchase plan match department/curriculum

Analysis: Use statistics are tracked for decisions (cancellations, substitutions, etc.) Print books and Journals Circulation Reports Inhouse use Electronic Books, Databases, Journals Stats provided by publishers ILL & Prospector Requests

Priority for PD is high Drivers Economic crisis—increases not sustainable Cost of maintaining lower use items in question Space problems mean something must go Campus users still want collections but want them at point of need.

Operational steps: Books Work with book vendors that recognize need for patron-driven options: CSU exploring pilot with BBS & EBL Placing record in catalog allows user to decide format: electronic, print, or print on demand Collection control desirable: pilot is based on current profiles of departments/disciplines

Operational: Books Next Steps Explore platform neutral interfaces with book vendors Create one central interface for users Simplify workflows Test hypothesis: less purchased in PD model equals cost savings

Operational Steps: Journals Continue to monitor trends Deals are unsustainable/breaking up? Pay by the drink models for articles/not subscriptions? Open access increasing/put in Rapid Increased deposits of articles in IR’s (just an idea) New discoverability tools for federated searching across formats, across local and regional catalogs, and IR’s, across publisher databases (e.g.,Summon)

Depends on vendor/publisher developments in the field Re-educating students and faculty Faculty now rely on purchase plans supplying core monographs Determining workflows—extensive report monitoring, record maintenance Determining financial impacts, increasing budget risk? Difficulty of Implementing

What impacts on collection development/ILL? How far will PD go? Where are core collections still needed? Reference? What are workflows? Budget strategy (buy until you run out? Risk of records in the catalog?) Will this be an alternative to ILL? How will this impact publishing?
