The Need for a Wetland Program Plan U.S. EPA encourages states and tribes to develop a Wetland Program Plan that includes four broad “Core Elements” – Monitoring and Assessment – Voluntary Restoration and Protection – Water Quality Standards for Wetlands – Regulatory activities including 401 certification Provides a statewide document to guide wetland conservation and restoration efforts Create additional grant opportunities for governmental and non- governmental entities Indiana’s remaining wetlands are under increasing pressure

Time Line September 2011: IDEM requests funding from U.S. EPA April 2013: Signed contract with independent consultants Winter and Spring 2014: Stakeholder surveys and public outreach sessions Summer 2014: One-on-one meetings, information compilation and document drafting Fall 2014: Additional public outreach, public comment period and document drafting Winter 2015: Document submitted to U.S. EPA
