Watershed Card Sort

Step 1: SORT IT One student will take all of the cards out of the bag. Sort the cards into three neat stacks. Picture Cards Definition Cards Vocabulary Terms

Step 1: SORT IT Place the picture cards back into the bag. Push the definition cards off to the side. Vocabulary Terms Picture Cards Definition Cards

Step 2: SAY IT Spread the vocabulary terms out in a neat row across your table like this. Your teacher will say each word aloud, then you will repeat the word and point to the card with the vocabulary term. Weathering Erosion Deposition Sediment Watershed Groundwater Surface Water Runoff Pollution

Step 3: DESCRIBE IT Describe it Describe the picture to your group using this stem. “In this picture, I see…” Attempt to match the picture to one of the vocabulary terms by saying… “I think this picture might match the term… because…” Place the picture under the vocabulary term. Term Match It Term

Other group members only listen and do not influence the decision! Step 3: DESCRIBE IT After making a match, pass the bag of pictures to the next student and the process continues until all pictures are matched. Only one picture is removed at time! Step 4: READ IT Place the definition cards into the plastic bag and use the same steps as Describe It. Each student reads one definition to the group. Remember to use the sentence stems and speak in complete sentences.
