Central California ASBS Program Compliance Considerations February 11, 2015

Compliance Receiving Water Exceedances = Load Reductions How well will load reductions eliminate exceedances? Comparison of Storm Receiving Water with Loads Estimated Runoff from Impervious Area and Rainfall Estimated Runoff x Concentration = Load

Test Cases Potentially most problematic contaminants Trace Metals, Nutrients, Fecal Indicator Bacteria, PAHs CAVEAT! These analyses were based on relatively few samples

Cadmium

E. coli

Enterococcus

Ammonia

PAHs

Preliminary Findings The relationships between contaminant loads and receiving water concentrations vary among ASBS Some ASBS will be more amenable to reducing ocean contaminant concentrations via load reductions than will others The relationship between contaminant loads and receiving water concentrations are not consistent among contaminants FIBs appear to be most amenable to reducing ocean concentrations via load reductions Reductions of trace metal and nutrient concentrations via load reductions appear to be especially problematic
