Welcome to the YCC Approx 300 members > 50% CERN Fleet – Dinghies (7), Advanced Dinghies (2) and Cats (2) –6 keel boats –Boston whaler – rescue boat –Rib (dinghy courses) Where : Versoix Port Choiseul

Not a rental business Works because everybody finds a role and participates

All Volunteers Maintenance Q boat drivers Admin, insurance Teachers Mentors

Surveillance Essential for club activities –Lessons –Regattas Obligatory prerequisite for test –Sign up early –2 evening outings –Or one Regatta

Maintenance Boat responsible – automatically notified of issues when put in the log book – boat user is expected to play an active role in the repair

Opportunity to learn Logistics – taking/picking up sails for repair If there is a problem to signal it and sort it out and take responsibility for dealing with it. Boats get a high level of usage so normal wear and tear occurs.

Opportunities to Sail ;) Club night – 18:00 Committee member allocates boats (keys) Helps to form helm/crews Keel boats, you’ll still learn YCC Regattas – open to all members –There’s friendly rivalry, but go for it. Mentors Mailing list – Course participants automatically on list Tuesday Trainings – from mid July (after courses) –Sign up, first come first served. Dinghy Days – one per month on weekend

Mentoring Volunteer who’s offered to take a student out on the water as a private outing. You will be crew and gives you a chance to get familiar with the boats. Ideally you will have one outing before the course starts. Up to the mentor and mentee to organize between themselves.

Courses YCC-CNV 8 places Professional Instructor Taught from rib Laser Ones and 420 Tuesdays YCC 18 places Unpaid Instructor Instructor on boat –One to one/two –Rib may be used Laser 2, Xenon, RS500 7 Lessons (aprox 9wks) Mon, Tues, Wed, Fri

YCC licenses - Keys Internal YCC tests –Demonstrated competence –Know and respect rules of club –Basic Lake Rules (priority rules) –Safety Q boat outings – 2 required –Sign up now Evening Regatta (counts as two) Maintenance –Logistics – sails picking up / taking to NS will earn points

Dinghy Key The test –Correct rigging and derigging of the boat –Launching and return to harbour –Sailing ability Basic manoeuvres, tacking, gybing, stopping –Capsize –Lake rules Priorities –Knots Bowline, figure of 8, tie a cleat

Not covered in Dkey Trapezing Spinnaker/Gennaker It’s starting point Limitations –Enthusiasm –Time

Typical Ycc Course Evening Starts at 6pm prompt – Get there in advance, have a coffee at the buvette.. 30 to 45 mins to rig and launch. About 8pm the wind stops Derigging and berthing, –another 30 mins Debriefing at buvette, the Green Book –and occasion to share experiences with other students.

I can’t make it tomorrow/next week! It happens.. Try and swap with someone else, by sending a mail to mailing list d-students, plus Jan and myself. At least someone else can make use of the slot – preferable not at 10 to 6. And you may not miss a lesson

Equipment Required For Dinghy Sailing Wetsuit –Not a shorty, –3/5 mm long legs Boots –Keep feet warm, protect them Gloves –Without the tips –Wet hands are fragile, pulling wet sheets (ropes) Splash Vest, Hat, Sunglasses, Sun cream –Not essential but practical

From where - examples Vieux Camper – Thonon –Excellent selection of material – not cheapest Geneva – ? Eaux Vives – by rdv, back of Bellevue – Direction Thonon, but still geneva Ferney – Diving shop (Dauphane ?) –Avoid getting a diving wetsuit

The Lake Gods Every year to ensure good wind we give gifts to the Lake Gods –Watches Avoid wearing expensive watches –Corrective Glasses Take the train home – hopefully the right one Contact lenses –Sunglasses –Phones
