TM 1 Countermeasure and Response Administration Demonstration and Working Group August 26, 2008 Jeanne Tropper, MS, MPH & CRA Development Team Division of Emergency Preparedness and Response National Center for Public Health Informatics

TM 2 Agenda Introductions and Background CRA Demonstration Demonstration Question and Answer Ranking of CRA V1.9 and V1.10 Topics Agile Development Next steps for CRA Open Question and Answer

TM 3 Working Group Purpose Foundation for All Hazards support is near completion; based on input from SMEs both internal and external to CDC V1.9/1.10 of CRA likely the last releases before moving into an open source environment; closer alignment with OMS and Epi Info ™ Want to formalize process for prioritizing development for final release(s); there is sufficient time and resources under the current CRA contract to produce a comprehensive, full- featured, broadly scoped application Position CRA well to move to OS governance structure within the newly forming Outbreak Management Community of Practice (CoP) (or separate CoP – TBD)

TM 4 What is CRA? Genesis was Pre-Event Vaccination System (PVS) for national smallpox vaccination campaign Capability to support mass tracking during an event System has since evolved to support any countermeasure, any event; may include medical interventions such as vaccinations, pharmaceuticals and non-medical interventions such as patient isolation and quarantine or social distancing measures Includes the ability to track both detail (person level) and aggregate counts of countermeasures

TM 5 Implementation Options Centralized implementation – application is centrally located and managed by CDC; accessible using any standard web browser in conjunction with a CDC issued digital certificate Offline implementation - new with V1.7, CRA may be deployed offline on a stand-alone basis

TM 6 CRA 1.8 New Features V1.8 due for release September 15, 2008 Patient Registration (with Import and Search) Adverse Event Support Patient Follow-up User-Defined Fields Support Event Reports/Data Extracts Enhancements Sub-jurisdiction Support Aggregate Group & Reporting Enhancements (with Data Exchange) Priority groups National reporting

TM 7 Demonstration - Anthrax Scenario Rapid data entry of single countermeasure - doxycycline Event set up and ability to customize screens Add Biothrax vaccine with follow-up dose schedule Rapid data entry of two countermeasures – doxycycline and Biothrax Record adverse event

TM 8 Demonstration - Teen Vaccination Clinic Demonstrate Patient Registration Data entry of patient registration Add user defined field Import patient information

TM 9 Demonstration Aggregate Reporting Data entry at the Project Area level using Option 2 web entry aggregate Confirm aggregate counts for jurisdiction

TM 10 CRA Development Topics 1.Head of Household Dispensing 2.Alternate Data Entry 3.Ability to Exchange Data with Other PH Systems including but not limited to Immunization Registries, Surveillance, Outbreak Management Systems 4.Population Health Management 5.Data Elements for Patient Intake/Screening

TM 11 CRA Development Topics, continued 6.CRA, Epi-Info, OMS Integration – what form should it take 7.Support Linkages with Strategic National Stockpile and Other Inventory Tracking Systems 8.Analysis, Visualization and Reporting Improvements 9.Provide a Patient Consent Form 10.Decentralized Deployment

TM 12 Breakout Session Elect group leader/reporter No right or wrong questions, answers or comments Try not to get stuck on one idea – time is short Determine rankings 10 topic areas (10 min) Gather requirements for group’s top ranked CRA topic (5 min)

TM 13 Breakout Session, continued Brainstorm all possible requirements topic area CRA Development Team member to take notes Capture all ideas - look for commonalities Group leader to report out

TM 14 Requirements Gathering Questions What should be the scope of this topic? What features are “must haves” for this topic? What are the required data elements for this topic? What are the setup needs for this topic? Who should be able to access this feature?

TM 15 Agile Development Process Custom Development Need to mitigate risk Need Rapid Development Process Agile Methodology New Mindset Based on sprints Fixed Work/Fixed Time Work Fits Timeline Agile Methodology Traditional Methodology Individuals and Interactions Processes and Tools Working Software Comprehensive Documentation Customer/User Collaboration Contract Negotiation Responding to Change Following a Plan

TM 16 Agile Development March April May June July August September Development Sprints Register Patient Adverse Events Patient Import Patient Search Sub- jurisdiction Data Exchange Patient Follow-up Aggregate Reporting Data Security User- Defined Fields Offline Aggregate Reporting Confirm Aggregates Products Reports & Extracts Release of CRA 1.8.0

TM 17 Next Steps Hold CRA Working Group meetings to continue to define functional requirements for each topic Take top topics and requirements and begin Agile Development process Demonstrate new functionality under development to the CRA Working Group to help refine the requirements and interface

TM 18 Acknowledgements Project Areas CRA development team Emil Hristov rocks!
