Cribs ‐Cribs can be dangerous in many ways, but if used correctly they can be very safe. ‐Cribs made before 1986 are illegal to use because they are not meeting the standards of a normal cribs. ‐Do not use cribs older than 10 years or broken or modified ‐Make sure there are no gaps bigger than two fingers between the side of the crib and the mattress. ‐Make sure there is a flat mattress and no soft bedding. ‐There should be no cut-outs on the headboard or footboard so a baby's head can’t get stuck. ‐Never place pillows or blankets with a baby in the crib

What to dress them in ‐Dress children in sleeping wear not actual clothing. ‐Remove any draw strings or cords from their sleep wear. ‐Check for loose buttons. ‐Anything small an become a chocking hazard. ‐Make sure the fabric is breathable. ‐You can swaddle your baby and keep their Arms and legs at their sides.

Where to buy cribs, toddler beds & playpens ‐Walmart ‐Sears ‐EBay ‐Best Buy – online ‐Target ‐Etc.

Toddler beds ‐Make sure it is a sturdy bed, and it is low to the ground. ‐Make sure you buy a bed that has rails already on it. ‐Has to be certified. ‐Put the bed in a corner, so that there are two sides of the bed where your child can’t roll out. ‐If the bed is wood, check the joints, or if it is not wood check the screws to make sure they aren’t loose. ‐Have the bed away from windows, blinds, and heating units. ‐Move furniture like bedside tables and lamps away from the bed.

What to dress them in ‐If your child has long hair put it in a ponytail. ‐They can wear one piece footy pajamas in the winter And cold nights. ‐On hot summer nights they can wear shorts and a Tank top or nothing at all besides their diaper.

Playpen ‐They are not meant to be slept in unsupervised. ‐While you are using it, make sure the sides are locked in place. ‐Don’t add blankets, pillows, or extra mattresses. ‐Make sure the mattress is fuuuuuurhm. ‐Watch the baby in the playpen at all times. ‐Do not add stuffed animals, your baby could use them to climb out. ‐Make sure the playpen is far from stairs, doors, furniture and appliances. ‐Never put a playpen near the window because they could grab the blinds and crack their necks.

Tips for safe sleep ‐Safest spot for infant to sleep is alone in a crib. ‐Don’t put infants to sleep on; water/standard beds, air mattress, futons etc. ‐Always put baby on their back to help prevent SIDS. ‐A smoke free environment is always helpful. ‐For the first 6 months put the crib in your room. ‐Do not share the bed with you child.
