Work For You Presented by Career Services

Writing a Great Resume Contact information Objective Education Summary / Profile Relevant Work Experience Some optional sections (skills, activities, honors, awards) Functional vs. chronological resume

Dress for Success! Make a great first impression-- how you dress is a very important part What you wear can convey a professional and high- powered image, or a sloppy, indifferent one You should choose traditional business attire; be polished yet comfortable. See Handout for ideas

Dress for Success Don’t forget: Hands Teeth / breath (Pleasant!) Body odor Skin Make-up Perfume / cologne No cigarette smoke Chewing Gum

During The Career Fair Meeting Employers Prepare a “script” Have a pen and paper ready Bring plenty of copies of your resume’ Have a plan!!!! And, work the room…develop a strategy. Don’t go to your top company right away… Know that you are being observed!! Ask the representative what is the best way to follow-up with his/her organization Request a business card from each recruiter

Questions You May Be Asked Anticipate, anticipate, anticipate!!! What is your “30 second commercial”? Be prepared!! “Tell me about yourself.” “Why should we hire you?” “What are your strengths?” Some things to consider: what excites you about the field you are pursuing? What leadership positions have you held? What do you know about their company?

After the Fair How to Follow Up with Employers A brief thank-you note (or ) to the representative. Contain some information that will remind him/her of your conversation. Thank them for taking the time to meet and talk with you and express your interest in the company. This is a reflection of your work ability; take the time to do it right! Send the thank-you note the next day!
