Today we will learn about… History Objective – We will learn about the contributions of John Wesley Powell to Utah’s history. Behavior Objective: Collaboration: Work with your group to complete the activity. Language Objective - We will read about Powell and discuss what to write about him. We will also present our bibliography citations to the class.

Explorer John Wesley Powell We are going to learn about John Wesley Powell and his contributions to U.S. and Utah history. We will use secondary sources about his life to practice writing bibliography citations.

John Wesley Powell & Making Bibliography Entries On a blank piece of paper, create the following organizer. Then open your book to pages 188-189.

In our book…. First, lets make a citation for our textbook. Write the citation for our book on the correct line. Then read the section with your group and choose the 5 most important things to know about Powell from this source.

One last source…. Finally on the back of your paper, write a bibliography citation for the last document you have. (Don’t read it!!!!) DO NOT TALK TO YOUR NEIGHBORS! Then pass your paper to a neighbor to correct, while you correct theirs. Fix any mistakes, then sign your name on the one you checked! Be careful!! If the citation isn’t correct, your team loses! If everyone at the table is correct, you get bonus points!
