1 Utah Enters a New Century Chapter 12: Utah Life Reflects the Nation

2 Bell Activity  Your word is “progressive” (Hint: NOT a car insurance company nor a soup!!!)  Over the next 5 weeks, we are going to take a musical journey through time. Each day I will share the popular songs of the era we are learning about. Yes, some of them will sound strange to us, but these genres are the ancestors of all the music you listen to today.  Anyone who claims to love music will listen even to things that are unusual to gain an appreciation for our musical past and get inspiration for the future. If you don’t like the music, keep it to yourself!  Where should your backpack be? Check under your desk for gum. If you find any, remove it!

6 Today we will learn…  History Objective – We will be able to describe how life in Utah reflected the events that was happening in the rest of the nation in the 20 th Century.  Language Objective – We will listen for important information and write it into our notes.  Behavior Objective – Work Ethic: We will stay on task through out the activity.

7 A New Century  Utah and the United States changed dramatically over the course of the 20 th Century.  The Presidents of this era were particularly influential in guiding the course of history in the U.S., Utah, and the world.

8 The Presidents  During the video, take notes about each of the presidents featured.  As each president’s biography is presented, include the following information in your notes.  What were their greatest accomplishments?  What major changes took place during their presidency? (Politics, technology, world events, disasters, and any other important events.)
