1- Santo Tomas. 2- Christmas in Basque Country. 3- Olentzero’s history 4- Olentzero’s song. 5- Christmas Day. 6- New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. 7- Three Wise Men Day.

Santo Tomas is a winter market, that we celebrate the 21th December. All the farmers go to Bilbao to sell their farm products. “Talo” (round mais flower flat bread with red sausage). And there is the option of winning a big pig.

If you happen to find yourself in Euskal Herria during the Christmas season, you may be surprised to witness children marching through the streets carrying a life-size figure of a man dressed in the historic clothing of the Basque peasant farmer. This figure is a representation of Olentzero, a very special part of the Basque Christmas tradition.

The story of Olentzero is one that has seen many changes over the centuries. Nowadays, the tale of Olentzero closely resembles that of characters such as Santa Claus and Father Christmas. In this children’s story, Olentzero begins his life as an abandoned infant who is found and raised by a fairy. After blessing the baby with the gifts of “Strength, Courage, and Love”, the fairy leaves him with a childless couple who raise him as their own. Many years later, following the death of his adopted parents, Olentzero began making toys that he would distribute to orphans in a nearby town. Is on 24 of December.

Olentzero joan zaigu Mendira lanera Intenzioarekin Ikatz egitera. Aditu duanean Jesus jaio zela Lasterka etorri da Berri ematera Horra, horra, gure Olentzero Pipa hortzean duela Eserita dago Kapoiak ere baitu Arraultzatxuekin Bihar meriendatzeko Botil ardoakin Olentzero buru handia Entendimentuz jantzia Bart arratsean Edan omen du Hamar erruko zahagia! Ai urde tripa handia! Ai urde tripa handia!

And in 25th December we celebrate Christmas Day, as in all Europe.

New Year's Eve is on December 31, the final day of the Gregorian year, and the day before New Year's Day. We have a dinner with our family and at twelve o’clock with the bells we eat 12 grapes. In new year’s day we have a lunch with our family.

After Jesus was born, wise men came to look for Him, from an area which is now in either Iran or Saudi Arabia. Although they are often called the "Three Kings“ (Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar), the Bible does not say how many there were, or that they were kings. Three is only a guess because they brought with them three gifts.
