What is Intellectual Property?  Intellectual property is any innovation, commercial or artistic, or any unique name, symbol, logo or design used commercially.

 Intellectual property is protected by patents on inventions; trademarks on branding devices; copyrights on music, videos, patterns and other forms of expression; trade secrets for methods or formulas having economic value and used commercially

Academic dishonesty  Academic dishonesty is any type of cheating that occurs in relation to a formal academic exercise.cheatingacademic  Includes: plagiarism/ fabrication/ deception/ cheating/ bribery/ sabotage/ misconduct/ professorial misconduct

 Plagiarism in research/ writing  Quoting or paraphrasing another author without proper quotation marks of course citation;  Failing to properly cite a borrowed idea or train of thought;  Failing to properly cite a borrowed sentence structure;  Using all or portions of a work completed by another student;  Hiring or soliciting someone to create work on your behalf. 

MSU’s policies on Plagiarism  Rules : 1 ) Unless authorized by their instructors, students are expected to do their own, original work on each assignment in each class.  2 ) A student who recycles his or her course work from one class to another may face an allegation( 无证据指控 ) of academic dishonesty.  3 ) An instructor who believes a student has committed an act of plagiarism should take appropriate action, which includes the issuing of a “penalty grade” for academic dishonesty.

 Plagiarism can result in serious consequences for the student.  Including formal reprimand, academic probation, suspension, expulsion, and, depending on the student’s degree path, malpractice and disbarment proceedings

GENERAL STUDENT REGULATIONS PROTECTION OF SCHOLARSHIP AND GRADES The principles of truth and honesty are fundamental to the educational process and the academic integrity of the University.

 Definition of Penalty Grade A grade assigned to a student by a faculty member based on a charge of academic misconduct.

Process of punishment  The student shall have ten class days to request an academic grievance hearing to contest a penalty grade based on a charge of academic dishonesty.
