Tall Tales A fictional story that uses hyperboles. It contains a hero or heroine who are larger than life. Sometimes the hero or heroine are completely made up; sometimes they are based on a real person.

Through the telling of the story, these heroes and heroines are given exaggerated characteristics. They are bigger or stronger than most characters and solve problems in a hard to believe or humorous way.

There are four things tall tales have in common.

Number 1: The main character has a regular job but is larger-than-life or superhuman in his or her abilities.

Number 2: The character has a problem or problems that he or she solves in a humorous way(s).

Number 3: Details in the story are exaggerated.

Number 4: The character(s) uses everyday language and are like common people in behavior.
