How we know about Shemi:
Dewi Emrys was a famous Welsh writer who grew up knowing Shemi He wrote about Shemi in this book published in 1937
D.J. Williams ( left) was another Welsh writer who made a radio programme on Shemi in 1936
D. J. Williams lived opposite Mary when she was a little girl
Mary’s father knew lots about Shemi and told her some of the stories
Mary when she was a little girl
And here is Mary’s father when he was about 80 – still telling Shemi stories!
Shemi and his tales live on!
Mary can come and tell you Shemi stories - the cardboard cut-out comes too!
Children are making up Shemi stories
And children are painting his portrait
The Rose & Crown is still in Goodwick – and right next door is the Hope and Anchor!
You can still visit Rhos-y-caerau Chapel
You can find Shemi’s tombstone - as Mary did!
And see that Shemi’s real name was James Wade
