The Department of Waste Management The main municipal institution dealing with: taking unsorted waste from households taking sorted waste utilizing elecrtical devices

Typical containers for sorting plastic, paper and glass. If you recycle waste the city provides you with free sorting bags.

Environmental Protection Department in the Municipal Office of Żory The department deals with : issuing permits for municipal waste collection permits for house projects permits for cutting down trees on private estates etc.

Water Supply and Sewage Institution

Environmental organizations operating in the Silesian region: Silesian Botanical Garden in Mikołów: Created in 2002 to protect and preserve the vanishing populations of plant species in the Silesian region. Silesian Botanical Garden is one of the earliest institutions of its kind in Poland. It was established to conduct scientific research, conservation, for teaching and learning purposes. The main aim is the conservation of biodiversity, which includes: creating a wide diversity of habitats and encouraging maximum diversity, creating a maximum diversity of plants, protecting the capacity of the plant population for generative reproduction. The Silesian Botanical Garden conducts the following scientific research: diagnosis of the reasons for the loss of biodiversity, environmental data gathering, modelling of environmental changes, developing remedial actions.

The center is the only local government unit of this type in Poland.
