Presentation transcript:

Koph I cried with my whole heart; hear me, O LORD: I will keep thy statutes.

Crying seems to be the theme of this section Note that the author’s tears are not of joy, but are a result of trouble.

Crying is a natural human emotion. Children cry for various reasons, Hunger or need changing Wants attention Danger or pain For adults, crying is a result of grief, being overwhelmed, or placed in a threatening situation

The writer is not whining or whimpering. This is a desperate cry for help. He cries during the night! The night is a convenient period for the powers of darkness. Darkness is a convenient environment for wickedness and it is a period weeping and grumbling takes place.

Note that In the Midst of His Crying….. The psalmist does not lose focus of his source of help. The psalmist continues to cry out to the Lord, and while doing so combines his prayer with the commitment to obedience to God’s Word. He remembers his promise.

He still finds hope in God’s word. Discouragement sees the darkness of night but faith sees the appearance of the day. The writer turns a trying, horrible experience into an opportunity to communicate with God.

During trials, we tend to pray with increased focus, passion, and sincerity.

Even when I’m faced with the most challenging and painful situations, it’s good to know that the presence of the Lord is consistent! (Psalm 40:17; 46:1; 124).

Learn not to focus on the problem, but on the promise. Just as the writer declares victory, we must learn to declare the same. If you lie down sad, arise and become happy.

Say things like: Every angel of darkness that hovers over my life and my home is defeated. The spirit of sickness and disease is conquered and rendered helpless. The spirit of poverty that has followed my family is now defeated, and I will become prosperous according to the promises of God’s word. The spirits of anger, wrath, and bitterness are no longer welcome in my life. I will become victorious against the spirit of stagnancy, laziness, complacency, or any other spirit that has made me comfortable in my current situation. The word of God will be the authority in my life, for in it are all of the promises of God for me, and His promises never fail.

In other words, if you’re going to be victorious, you must learn to declare the victory! Talk victorious! Walk victorious! Think victorious! and you will become victorious!
