New York Type

Andie Lessa is a Graphic Design student at New York City College of Technology (CUNY). Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Andie fell in love with New York City from the moment she moved to the Big Apple, in Four years later, she has now decided to integrate that passion with Typography, another subject of fascination for her. About Me

New York Type New York Type is a blog that features pictures of typographic signage in New York City. The website will have information on the historic background of those pieces, while explaining about the different cultures in the city that inspired such unique styles of types. The blog will be updated weekly and its posts will portray typographic signs from various neighborhoods of New York City. The posts, yet based in published typographic facts, will have a personal touch. Mission Statement

New York Type A typical post of New York Type contains an image of some kind of signage found in New York City, followed by text about the typography used and other graphic aspects. Here’s a link to a narrative post. A Typical Post

New York Type Since 1904, when the subway in New York City first opened its doors, the world has been through a load of changes in graphic design norms. Art Nouveau, Minimalism, Cubism and Expressionism: these are just some of the art movements that happened in the 20th century. Unlike the Paris subway system, that displays deep inspiration from Art Nouveau in its architectural traces, the NYC subway remained mostly immune to any specific artistic style. For the rest of the post, click here. Blog Series Post

New York Type You should read New York Type if you want to learn about the typography of the NYC subway system through a passionate art student’s point of view. Thank you for your time.
