What is Memorial Day? It is a special day to remember and honor soldiers who died, especially those who died while fighting in a war Memorial Day is a federal holiday.

We also honor soldiers who are currently serving in the armed services: ♦Army ♦ Navy ♦Marines ♦Air Force and the ♦Coast Guard.

When is Memorial Day? It is on the last Monday in May. This year 2014, it is on May 26 th May is in the spring.

We celebrate… Friends and relatives put flowers, wreaths, and flags on the graves of soldiers.

Politicians give speeches The President of the United States puts a wreath on the Grave of the Unknown Soldier. The grave is in Virginia at the Arlington National Cemetery

Families have picnics or barbecues.
