The Technical College System of Georgia’s Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership

The Technical College System of Georgia’s Now in it’s 37 th year, GOAL emphasizes the importance of technical education in today’s global marketplace. GOAL rewards the top echelon of Georgia’s 141,000 technical college students for excellence in their chosen program of study as well as character, leadership, attitude, personal goals and enthusiasm for technical education.

The Technical College System of Georgia’s The 2008 GOAL Week celebration and judging for the next statewide GOAL winner is May 20–23, 2008 at the Westin Peachtree Plaza in downtown Atlanta, with the winner named during The GOAL banquet on May 22.

The Technical College System of Georgia’s For workforce development and Georgia’s economy to thrive, the partnership between business, industry and the Technical College System of Georgia must be strong. GOAL celebrates the new age of technical education while strengthening the colleges’ associations with the business community. Since 1971, businesses have shown their support of this distinguished statewide awards program.

The Technical College System of Georgia’s This is how the Technical College System of Georgia’s GOAL program works...

The Technical College System of Georgia’s The GOAL competition begins early in the year when technical college instructors across Georgia nominate their most promising students based on academic achievement and personal leadership. These students are not just quick learners with good personalities…GOAL nominees combine these qualities with a demonstrated and active interest in their community. GOAL students represent the Technical College System of Georgia’s vital role in the state’s economic growth. Each has a strong work ethic and healthy enthusiasm for promoting technical education in Georgia.

The Technical College System of Georgia’s During GOAL, a distinguished panel of judges, comprised of top executives from Georgia’s business and industry, selects one technical college student to serve as the state GOAL winner – the statewide Student of the Year and our ambassador of technical education in Georgia!

The Technical College System of Georgia’s Technical college GOAL winners are future leaders who are looking toward bright careers while bringing honor and distinction to their home communities. The state GOAL winner is highly visible throughout the state, making appearances with the Governor, the Georgia General Assembly, and various education conferences, along with regular visits to the 33 technical college campuses. The 2007 Technical College GOAL Winners

The Technical College System of Georgia’s The GOAL competition culminates in Atlanta during a week long, who’s-who event where Georgia’s business, government, and industry leaders join the Technical College System of Georgia to judge the finalists and celebrate our students’ achievements. GOAL Week recognizes technical education’s vital impact on Georgia’s workforce and future prosperity.

The Technical College System of Georgia’s How important is technical education? Here’s what our GOAL winners have said…

The Technical College System of Georgia’s “While talking about GOAL with such enthusiasm, people couldn’t help but hear what I would say next – I would deliver my message throughout the state about how technical education changed my life!” Sabrina Stefan 2000 State GOAL Winner Middle Georgia Technical College

The Technical College System of Georgia’s “I chose a technical college education to obtain direction for a secure future. The excellent instruction along with the hands-on approach has helped me to have confidence as well as the skills I need to perform on the job. I never dreamed that I would be the state winner. Winning the state title changed my life forever, and that’s what I tell people all the time.” Earnest Dixon 2001 State GOAL Winner Heart of Georgia Technical College

The Technical College System of Georgia’s “I wanted an education that would provide a sound foundation in academic theory as well as a ‘working’ technical practicum. I wanted the education that would best give me that extra hand-up to succeed in the working world. Little did I know that I would win the state title.” Jonathan Haley 2002 State GOAL Winner, Athens Technical College

The Technical College System of Georgia’s “My goal is to go back to all parts of Georgia and tell everyone that they can achieve great things through technical education. My message to others will be to find something you truly love doing, and technical education can help you achieve that goal.” Christina Dixon 2003 State GOAL Winner Atlanta Technical College

The Technical College System of Georgia’s “In my role as the state’s ambassador for technical education, I travel the entire state speaking to different educational, business and civic groups.” Kayla Chaney 2006 State GOAL Winner Okefenokee Technical College

The Technical College System of Georgia’s Keldrique Lofton 2007 State GOAL Winner Albany Technical College The Technical College System of Georgia has a statewide credit enrollment of more than 141,000 college students and 6,000 college faculty and staff.
