Defining Shame: It’s Different from Guilt

GUILT SHAME CONDEMNATION

GUILT

‘Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and you forgave the guilt of my sin’. Psalm 32:5

SHAME

Instead of your shame you will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace you will rejoice in your inheritance. And so you will inherit a double portion in your land, and everlasting joy will be yours. Isaiah 61:7

Do not be afraid; you will not suffer shame. Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated. You will forget the shame of your youth ….. ’ Isaiah 54:4 ‘ Those who look to the Lord are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. ’ Psalm 34:5

CONDEMNATION

‘Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus, the law of the spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:1

PRAYER ‘Father, I’m sorry for partnering with guilt, shame and condemnation, I am sorry that I have believed lies and not allowed the truth to set me free. I forgive myself and I forgive any others involved in bringing guilt, shame and condemnation into my life.

My past no longer defines me, I choose to walk free of all guilt, all shame all condemnation with my head held high and my eyes fixed on you. I take off my masks, and release any coping defences to You.

Jesus you died on the cross and took all my shame, my guilt and condemnation I choose to believe what you say about me and I want to learn to love the me you created me to be. Amen
