Riches of the Righteous The worldly view indulgent living as the reward of wealth, Luke 12:15-19 Righteous are motivated to do good with their possessions, Luke 12:20-21; 16:20-21; 1 Tim 6:17-19; Psa 49:16-20

He learned that punishment for sin is real, painful and eternal Luke 16:23-25 I am tormented in this flame!

Hell is Hot…and it Hurts! Mark 9:43-48 God is willing to punish sinners after death, Rom 2:5, 8-9 (2 Ths 1:8-9) God desires our salvation and offers it as long as we are alive, 1 Tim 2:3-4

Punishment: Unending without relief Luke 16:24 It is as unending as is the rest of the saints, Rev 14:10-13 The torment of the wicked is forever and ever, Rev 20:10, 15

He learned that death is permanent (Luke 16:27, 30) Eccl 9:3-6 You will never pass this way again!

Death Ends Material Existence Luke 16:27, 30 Doctrines of reincarnation or future lives on earth are false Resurrection of dead is not in order to live on earth, 1 Cor 15:50

Death Brings Rest or Punishment Luke 16:24-26; Rev 14:13 This picture is of events before the day of judgment, yet it foreshadows eternity, Heb 9:27 Unimaginable sorrow and suffering, or indescribable rest and peace, Matt 13:49-50; Rom 2:7-10 (Phil 1:23)

He learned that misery does not love company Luke 16:27-28 Where have all the good times gone?

Sinners Entice the Weak and Naive Proverbs 1:10-19 They don’t hang around when trouble comes! Prov 18:24; 27:6 Young boy who says: “if you love me you’ll make love with me”! Drug dealer: “the first hit is on me!” Drinker: “Have a drink, just one”! Prov 23:31-32 Immoral woman who entices, Prov 7:7, 21-27 Endure temptations and resist the devil! James 1:12; 4:7

He learned that the word of God is enough Luke 16:27-31 Do not refuse Him who speaks!

Enough to Convict and Convert John 16:8; 2 Tim 3:16 Godly sorrow and repentance King Josiah, 2 Chrn 34:14-21, 27-28 Bereans, Acts 17:11-12

Enough to Complete Us in Christ 2 Timothy 3:17 Without using creeds, confessions or catechisms By using the powerful word of God, Col 1:28 Hear Him! (Matt 17:5)
