 ( )  Vivaldi was born Venice, probably on June 11 th  He studied music with his father, a violinist, and entered the priesthood sometime before 1703

 Because of his asthma he never celebrated mass after his first year as a priest, though throughout his life he was known as the red priest.  THE RED PRIEST

 Vivaldi wrote approximately 40 or 50 operas and some 400 concertos, in addition to church music of all kinds.  His operas for the most part, have been forgotten as has most of his church music, except the Gloria mass, and the oratorio Judith Triumphant.
