A Taste of History

At the same time that people like Thomas Edison and Alexander Graham Bell were ushering in the age of electricity and instant communication, hundreds of other inventors were changing the way that Americans were... eating.

Throughout the 1870s and 1880s, chemists and biologists perfected new food-preservation techniques using chemical preservatives and canning.

Grocery stores became a common site in every American city, and the modern era of packaged food was born.

Many of the companies and brands that were part of this food revolution are still with us today. Exploring this connection between the past and our modern world is the basis for our next project... A Taste of History

Working in pairs, students will research a food, or food brand which originated in the late-19th century. Students will collect the results of their research into a four-slide Powerpoint or Keynote presentation.

The presentations should then be delivered to Mr. Cushing either by... attachment flash drive
