Field Apostles:

One day soon afterward Jesus went to a mountain to pray, and he prayed to God all night. At daybreak he called together all of his disciples and chose twelve of them to be apostles. (Luke 6:12-13, New Living Translation )

Simon Peter (Cephas Barjona) Andrew

John Philip

James Bartholomew

Thomas Matthew Simon the Zealot

Jude Thaddaeus James the Less Judas Iscariot

So now we must choose another man to take Judas’s place. It must be someone who has been with us all he time that we were with the Lord Jesus -- from the time he was baptized by John until the day he was taken from us into heaven. Whoever is chosen will join us as a witness of Jesus’ resurrection. Acts 1:21-22,New Living Translation)

Jesus traveled through all the cities and villages of that area, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom. And wherever he went, he healed people of every sort of disease and illness. He felt great pity for the crowds that came, because their problems were so great and they didn’t know where to go for help. They were like sheep without a shepherd. He said to his disciples, The harvest is so great, but the workers are so few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send out more workers for his fields. (Matt 9:35-38, New Living Translation)

P H A R I S E E S  The Pharisees were the largest and powerful group. They were not only a religious group, but a political party as well in Palestine.  Pharisees is an Aramaic word, for paras meaning separate  Pharisees were predominantly laymen who isolated themselves from the Gentiles.  Purity of religion was the goal of the Pharisees. They observed the “law of Moses.”

S A D D U C E E S  Sadducees were clerics  Sadducees come from the Hebrew word tsaddigim, meaning the righteous ones. They were of the priestly class, they only accept the teachings contained in the written scroll.  The Sadducees rejected the Pharisees’ belief of the immortality of the soul, the resurrection of the dead and the life after.

E S S E N E S  The Essenes were the esoteric group of the Jewish mystics. They got their names from the Aramaic asayya, meaning healer  The Essenes devoted themselves to study and prayer. They are the precursor to Christian monasticism. They gathered away from crowded places and sought solace near the Dead Sea.

THE ZEALOT PARTY  The Zealot Party or simply the Zealots were the activists, the revolutionary minded group.  Simon was called the Zealot because he belonged to the group before he was chosen as an Apostle.

M E S S I A H  The Hebrew word mashiyach means the “anointed one.”  The Greek word is Christos which means the same thing.

‘MAKE ME A CRISIS MAN, O LORD, NOT JUST A SIGN-POST ON THE HIGHWAY OF LIFE, BUT A FORK IN THE ROAD SO THAT MEN WHO MEET ME WILL COME TO KNOW JESUS CHRIST.” Jim Elliot

The word of God should not be bound in the synagogue, temple, church or chapel. It must be shared in the hearts of the unreached hearers, to all people.
