Purpose What is a Master? What piece is most replicated? What is the Renaissance period? When was the Mona Lisa Finished? What trio make-up the Renaissance period?

Vincent Van Gogh March 1853 – 29 July 1890 Vincent Van Gogh was a Dutch artist whose painting style is known as Post- Impressionism. This style of painting includes vivid colors and a lot of paint! The subjects of Van Gogh’s paintings are real people and objects. Much of his work contains swirling brushstrokes, which might show his mood and state of mind.

Starry Night Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh has risen to the peak of artistic achievements. Although Van Gogh sold only one painting in his life, the aftermath of his work is enormous. Starry Night is one of the most well known images in modern culture as well as being one of the most replicated and sought after prints.

Michelangelo March 6, 1475-February 18, 1564 "Italian sculptor, painter, architect and poet. He was one of the founders of the High Renaissance. Michelangelo's desire to become an artist was initially opposed by his father, as to be a practicing artist was then considered beneath the station of a member of the gentry. He was, however, eventually apprenticed in 1488 for a three-year term to Domenico Ghirandaio.It was in Ghirlandaio's workshop that Michelangelo would have learn the technique of fresco painting.

Sistine Chapel The Sistine Chapel ceiling, painted by Michelangelo between 1508 and 1512, is one of the most renowned artworks of the High Renaissance. The ceiling is that of the large Sistine Chapel built within the Vatican by Pope Sixtus IV begun in 1477 and finished by 1480.

Leonardo Da Vinci April 15, 1452-May 2, 1519 Leonardo Da Vinci was a scientist, inventor and artist who lived in Italy in the fifteenth century. Leonardo was born in the small town of Vinci in what is now central Italy on April 15, He showed many talents as a young boy. He was well spoken and musically talented, and he had a great talent for art. In 1466, Leonardo became the apprentice of Andrea Del Verrocchio, one of the most popular painters and sculptors in Florence, Italy. He remained an apprentice for twelve years.

Mona Lisa The Mona Lisa Leonardo da Vinci began painting the Mona Lisa in 1503, during the Italian Renaissance and, according to Vasari, "after he had lingered over it four years, left it unfinished...." He is thought to have continued to work on it for three years after he moved to France and to have finished it shortly before he died in 1519.

Raphael March 28, 1483 – April 6, 1520 [ Raphael Sanzio, usually known by his first name alone was an Italian painter and architect of the High Renaissance, celebrated for the perfection and grace of his paintings and drawings. Together with Michelangelo and, Leonardo da Vinci he forms the traditional trinity of great masters of that period.

The Transfiguration is considered the last painting by the Italian High Renaissance master Raphael.It was left unfinished by Raphael, and is believed to have been completed by his pupil,Giulio Romano, shortly after Raphael's death in The picture is now housed in the Pinacoteca Vaticana of theVatican Museum in theVatican City. This painting was created by Raphael and was believed to express a connection between God and his people.
