Hecate By Sydney Walsh

Greek and Roman Names: Greek name: Hecate, Εκατη Roman name: Trivia

Influences: Hecate, or Trivia, was the Queen of night, goddess of crossroads, and witchcraft/sorcery. Hecate is known as a triple goddess, Luna for the moon or night, Diana in her earthly form, and Hecate as the underworld goddess. She haunted crossroads, and graveyards (At this time crossroads were considered ghostly, and to be places of evil magic).

Relationships with other Gods: Her parents are Perses and Asteria. Hecate had several relationships, including: Phorcus (Sea Deity), Apollo, and Aeetes. Within these relationships she had several children, Scylla, Circe, Medea, and Apsyrtus.

Symbols: Two torches, symbolizing the illumination of darkness. A knife, representing her care for women, and birth. A rope, symbolizing the umbilical cord, and link between life and death. The cross, representing the crossroads

All wild animals, specifically animals associated with the dark, ravens, owls, and snakes. Her most sacred animal was a black she dog (which is often pictured next to her).
