Stormalong Lesson Review

What genre is “Stormalong”? “Stormalong” is a Tall Tale

From which point of view (person) is “Stormalong” told? “Stormalong” is told in third person point of view. The narrator is not in the story. The narrator uses key words like “he, him, they”.

What did Stormalong wish when he was growing up in Cape Cod? Stormalong felt like an outcast because of his size. He just wished that he could be like everyone else.

What does the idiom “he had salt water in his veins” really mean? “He had salt water in his veins” is figurative language used to show the reader how much Stormalong loved the sea.

How did fighting the giant octopus affect the way the sailors felt about Stormalong? After Stormalong fought the giant octopus, the other sailors began to really respect him as a fellow sailor.

Why did Stormalong go to Boston? What disappointed him about the city? Stormalong though that Boston would be bigger, because it was a bigger city. When he arrived there, however, the buildings were the same size as they were in Cape Cod. It was not big enough for him.

Why does Stormalong leave the sea and head west? Stormalong left the sea and headed west to try and find a place where he could fit in. He heard that there was a lot of room out west.

Why did the sailors build the gigantic boat? The sailors built the gigantic boat so that Stormalong would feel comfortable sailing with them. They did this because they really cared about him.

What is a hyperbole? A hyperbole is figurative language that uses extreme exaggeration to paint a picture in the reader’s mind.
