Scottish Freight Activity Survey

Proposal FTA would like to develop economic and freight indicators specific to Scotland to assist with lobbying on future Scottish policy issues and to provide useful information for members. Dr Sharon Ryan (Head of Research, FTA) contacted Scottish Government statisticians who are keen to work with FTA and its Scottish members to improve on, and develop further, their Scottish statistics in the area of freight transport and the wider logistics industry.

Potential Freight Indicators Some potential statistics of interest may be: Possibility of gathering annual statistics for Scotland on manufactured exports based on containerised cargo, excluding data on non containerised commodities such as oil/gas/nuclear fuel Possibility of disaggregating Scotland from UK Trade Data Testing confidence and quality of HMRC regional trade statistics Gathering data on Scottish imports

Next Steps The project is in its early stages and further investigation into the types of statistics of interest is required. In order to realise this project, FTA needs to develop a structured programme of information gathering and consultation with the help of Scottish members. FTA is currently investigating the best route to take this project forward.

Suggestions Do you have any particular economic and/or freight statistics that you would be interested in monitoring?
