Bonfire safety advice

What to do Always check that no children or animals are hiding in the bonfire before lighting. Keep some buckets of water nearby in case of emergency and to damp down after the event. Bonfires built on council land without permission will be removed. Make sure all pets are inside at all times. Alcohol and fireworks do not mix and may lead to injury. Never throw fireworks. Make sure everyone is standing at least 10 meters away from the fires.

Have a Safe Bonfire Night! Please consider attending an organised event rather than risking your safety by having your own bonfire.

Fire work safety

If you're planning on hosting a fireworks party "be safe, not sorry" and keep it free from accidents by following the Fireworks Code.

Firework code Fireworks should not be sold to any person under the age of 18. Ideally attend an organised display. Keep fireworks in a closed metal box. Follow the instructions on each firework. Stand well back. Never go back to a lit firework. Never put fireworks in your pocket. Keep a bucket of water nearby if you are setting off fireworks in your garden. Never throw fireworks. Keep pets indoors. Alcohol and fireworks do not mix and may lead to injury

Don’t break the law!!! It's illegal to let fireworks off between 23:00 and 07:00, except on Bonfire Night (midnight), Diwali, New Year, and Chinese New Year (01:00). It's illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to possess fireworks in a public place.
