2. We get ready to board the bus. We know the field trip rules. We are excited!

3. We get to the Survive Alive House after a bus ride over a big bridge. Adah has her name tag ready.

4. As we get off the bus we line up at the front door. The lady comes to check off our school.

5. As we walk in, we notice a park bench and a mural that looks like a park.

6. First we took off all of our coats, hats and mittens. We left them in the coat room.

7. We then gathered around the house. The house looks like a real house but it is on the inside of the building. There is a sky, and street lights, grass and a yard. Ms. Weiner says it is built just like a movie set would be. It looks real but it is not.

8. We listen to the fireman explain the rules to us. We heard about the smoke being made of sugar, and the fire being lights that look real. We learned about everything we were suppose do.

9. We went and sat in our groups to watch and listen.

10. if the smoke alarm goes off…… STAY LOW! Smoke rises and the fresh air stays by the ground. Always crawl near the floor. First,

11. Use the back of your hand to feel the door. The back of your hand is more sensitive to heat. It will tell you if it is safe to open the door. If it is warm, there is fire on the other side of the door. Then you must find a different way out of the room. Second

12. if the door is cool….. ….. then open it just a little…. Third,

13. …..to peek out and see if it is safe to enter the room

14. If not, you will have to use the window or another exit. If it is all clear, crawl your way to the door.

15. We started to go into the house and to learn how to escape a burning building in groups of 7.

18. We went to the windows!

19. We came out of the bedroom window, which was too high up to get out of… …we had to use the fire escape ladder.

20. We hung the fire escape ladder and started to come out the window..

21. He made it safely down! A$40 ladder saved his life!

22. Go to the meeting spot! NEVER go back in!

23. Tell them who is inside…… they need to know exactly where to go……. …..to save your family and your pets! You need to be outside and meet the fire truck.

26. Oh NO! Someone is missing! She does the right things…. She yells out the window She waves sheets and towels She has thrown toys out the window. The firemen will know where to look!

30. The fireman tells us about his tools, and about his clothes.

31. He shows us how to use a smoke detector.

32. We listen about fire safety.

33. The Smoke Detector Never take out the batteries for your toys. Always check the detector with its test button once a month. Check and replace the battery 2 times a year. If you do not have one…….the fire station will give you one free!

35. REMEMBER…. Response time is only 2 to 3 minutes! Call for help……………….. Get Out of the House

36. We made a hallway display from what we learned. We made models of houses from paper bags. Then we made them on fire with red and yellow tissue paper. We made smoke out of black tissue paper.

37. We made meeting spots and had fire trucks waiting to help. We had windows with people trapped. We made escape ladders down from the 2nd story windows.

38. The houses are on FIRE! Can you see the smoke and flames ?

39. We put up Smokey the Bear, and we made posters.

40. We wrote about wanting to be firemen and about our Survive Alive Experience!

41. I like Firemen by Sebastian Why I Want To Be A Firemen by Sebastian I like firemen because they help the people. They come every time your house is on fire. I want to be a firemen because I could wear firemen clothes. I could teach kids never to go back in the house. I could use the jaws of life. I could ride on the fire truck. I could shoot water from the hose. I could get in the buildings on fire. I could save kids. I could save people. I could chop down trees because I would have an ax. I could visit the policemen and meet people.

49. RememberAlways To have a PLAN to get out of the house. Have a MEETING SPOT. NEVER go back in once you are outside. Call 911. Know your address. If the smoke alarm goes off……

50. I like firemen because they save people. They get them out of fires when they don’t know where to go. When you are stuck in a fire you should throw a blanket out of a window so they know where you are. I do not want to be a firefighter because I don’t want my shirt on fire.
