How to Submit an ADED Conference Proposal

Objectives Identify the necessary steps for submitting a conference proposal Identify information required that the reviewers are evaluating Understand the review process

Call for Presentation Annual Conference presentations are promoted at least 12 months prior. Proposals are due to the executive office by October 1 st the prior year. Deadline extensions are considered based on the amount of proposals received. NMEDA : Deadline for submissions July 1 st prior year

Submission Submissions must be received in electronic format and include the following: –Speaker name, credentials, and bio sketch –Title of presentation –Presentation selection –Presentation abstract –Learning objectives

Types of Presentations Presentations are considered under the following categories: –1 full day Preconference Workshop –3 Hour Seminar –1.5 hour Seminar Level of expertise expected of the information –Basic: Entry level information –Intermediate: Specialized information: comprehension requires a strong foundation of knowledge. –Advanced: Expert information: comprehension requires a higher skill and knowledge base.

Abstract An abstract is a short statement that describes a larger work. It should contain key words of the larger work. It is original text not excerpted.

Types of Abstracts Descriptive –Describes the work being abstracted. –Outline of the work rather than a summary. –Usually 100 words or less Informative –Presents and explains all the main points of the work itself. –Acts as a substitute for the work. –Includes information on purpose, scope, results and conclusions.

Learning Objectives A learning objective is an outcome statement that captures what knowledge, skills or attitudes the learner should be able to exhibit after the presentation.

What does a Learning Objective Look Like SMART –S pecific –M easurable/Observable –A ttainable for the target audience –R elevant and results oriented –T argeted to the learner and desired level of learning

Learning Objective Examples Participants will be able to identify appropriate vehicles for installation of adaptive driving equipment. Participants will identify and discuss causes of dementia and how they may impact driving. Participant will identify how technology trends impact driver rehabilitation programs.

Learning Objective Requirements 1-3 hour presentation; minimum of hour presentation; minimum of 3 8+ hour presentation; minimum of 5

Preparation for Review The executive office distributes the proposals to the education committee for peer review These submissions are distributed without identifying information including name or affiliations

Peer Review Process Each member of the education committee receives the redacted proposals for review The proposals are given consideration based on content and quality ADED conference reviews take place from October 15 th –November 15 th with final selections delivered to the executive office by November 22 nd.

Peer Review Process In the case of a member of the education committee submitting a proposal, a member of the board will be asked to take the committee members place for the entire selection process Submissions for other events will be reviewed in a time frame to meet printing deadlines

Final Decisions The executive office will make notifications based on acceptance or non acceptance Those accepted will be offered a Speaker Agreement identifying the date, time, and location of the presentation The final program will be submitted to the certification committee for contact hour approval per the policy.
