FORT DEARBORN Built in 1803, to protect the settlers against attacks by Native American In 1812, it was destroyed in war with Great Britain In 1816, it was rebuilt In present, part of the fort outline is marked by plaques & a line embedded in the sidewalk & road near the Michigan Avenue Bridge and Wacker Drive.

THE GREAT FIRE OF 1871 On Oct. 8th, 1871 How the fire began is unknown to this day. Started in a barn owned by the O’Leary family The rumor  O’Leary’s cow started fire by kicking over a lantern in the barn The firefighters were sent to the wrong neighborhood. Blaze spread quickly, - at least 300 pp  dead, - 100,000 pp  homeless, - $200,000 million worth of property  destroyed By morning of Oct. 10, 1871 the fire died out, after 4 days the city was rebuilt.
