The University of Utah UROP – Undergraduate Research Opportunities The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) provides undergraduate students and faculty members the opportunity to work together on research or creative projects. Available in all undergraduate academic disciplines. UROP

The University of Utah Contrasts in the disciplines Sciences & Engineering: Labs / Groups ; formal mentoring in research, publications expected – publications are part of the academic culture Social Sciences: Individual work, formal mentoring in research, some expectation of publication

The University of Utah Contrasts in the disciplines Humanities / Arts: Individual work, formal mentoring in research, no real expectation of publication – students must be very motivated, driven. Relationships with faculty very different.

The University of Utah Fall – 2008; A New Course This course will provide undergraduate students a background in scholarly research and publishing at the undergraduate level in the humanities, fine arts, sciences and social sciences. Students in this course will analyze how academic communities construct, communicate and preserve knowledge. Upon completion of this course, students will have the basic tools to pursue publishing a journal article. A unique feature of this course is that students will not only study the craft of creating an article, but will develop sound and efficient research strategies that they can apply in graduate and professional schools.
