Let’s Refresh Your Knowledge of… The NOUN!

Start by Doing the Following Things: Take out a piece of paper Draw a big box on it Draw a horizontal line across the middle of the box Put a Label Above the Box Titled “Nouns” Label the top half, “Things I Know” Label the bottom half, “Things I Learned” Fill out the top ½ of the box

What is the difference, kids? Let’s Start with… Common & Proper Nouns. What is the difference, kids?

That’s right. A common noun names anything that is not specific That’s right! A common noun names anything that is not specific. Therefore, it does not have a capital letter. And a proper noun is something specific, so it does require a capital letter!

Now let’s see if you know what you’re talking about… Identify the nouns in each sentence and classify as: common or proper, concrete or abstract, & if it’s collective Now let’s see if you know what you’re talking about… Each day huge crowds visit the Lincoln Memorial, which is in Washington, D.C. The memorial is in a beautiful setting not far from two other presidential monuments and the capitol.

3. Between the memorial and the Washington Monument are two long, shallow pools. 4. The Lincoln Memorial was designed by a noted architect of the time, Henry Bacon. 5. The memorial is styled to look like a Greek temple and has 36 columns, one for each state in the union at the time of the death of Lincoln.
