My Ancient Egypt project on TUTANKHAMUN

Contents Who was Tutankhamun? Why is Tutankhamun the most famous of all the pharaohs? What is an ancient Egyptian tomb? What is Tutankhamum’s Death Mask? Why did the Ancient Egyptians stop building pyramids What did Tutankhamum do when he was alive and how did he die? What is the Mummy's curse? Who found Tutankamun’s tomb? How is Tutankhamun’s funeral different to ours?

1. Who was Tutankhamun & what is a pharoah? Tutankamun is one of the most famous Pharoahs. Pharoah describes an “Ancient Egyptian king”. Tutankamun was a boy king. He was only 9 years old when he became a pharaoh. He only ruled for 9 years (1336-1327 B.C.) before he died. Tutankhamun’s dad was called Akhenaten. As a prince he was known as Tutankhaten. His nickname was King Tut.

2. Why is TUTANKHAMUN the most famous of all the pharaohs’? The reason that Tutankhamun is so famous is because his tomb was only found quite recently (less than 100 years ago), Lots of other Tombs that existed had been opened and the treasure was missing. Tutankhamun’s Tomb was extra special because it had not been opened before and it still contained all of it’s treasure including the beautiful Golden Death Mask.

What is an ancient egyptiAN tomb? A Tomb is the place where the Ancient Egyptians put the bodies of the Pharoah’s when they died. They also put lots of treasure in their Tombs. The Ancient Egyptians built the Pyramids as Tombs for their Pharoahs. They thought that the mummified body of the pharaoh would turn into a God and live forever. The tombs were built to protect the Pharaoh's body and his treasures. They liked to build the Pyramids large and tall to show how important the Pharoah’s were. The Pyramids

What is Tutankhamum’s Death Mask? Death Masks were used to cover the face of the Pharoah that had died. The death mask was made to look like the person who had died. They did this because they believed it would help the spirit to recognise its body because it would be wrapped up in bandages. Gold and precious jewels were used to make death masks to show how important the person was. Tutankhamun’s Death Mask This is what I would like my Death Mask to look like.

Why did the Ancient Egyptians stop building pyramids ? A problem with building a big pyramid was that everybody knew that there would be treasure inside. Lots of pyramids were broken into by robbers who stole the treasure. The newer Ancient Egyptian Tombs, like Tutankhamun’s were not as big and grand as the old pyramids. This made them harder to find and rob. This is probably the reason why Tutankhamuns treasure was still inside when it was discovered. This is a picture of the Entrance to Tutankhamuns Tomb.

What did Tutankhamum do when he was alive and how did he die? Tutankhamun was only a young boy. He did not make many important decisions. His Tomb contained many things which gave some clues about his life. It is thought he spent his time hunting, swimming, and studying. His tomb also gave us clues that he enjoyed board games. He did not really understood about politics or religion. He may also have been quite a poorly child because many walking sticks were found inside his tomb. King Tut died when he was about 19. There are lots of ideas about how he died . Some people think he was murdered and others believe he just got very poorly and died. I think they found walking sticks because he may have had a poorly leg. It might have got infected and caused him to die because they didn’t have medicines like we have today.

What is the Mummy's curse? The Ancient Egyptians made up stories of a curse to scare off any robbers.  They also wrote a message saying that anyone opening the tomb will be cursed & die. Some people who were actually there when the Tomb was opened died soon after. It might have not have been the curse but some people thought that the curse had done it. Poisonous plants were found in the tombs. Some people who died might have been poisoned by the plants. If people didn’t know about the plants they would have thought it was the curse that had done it. I think all of this was done to scare people so that they would not Rob the Tombs I don’t think the Mummy’s curse is real.

Who found Tutankamun’s tomb? Tutankhamun's tomb was found 92 years ago (1922) in a place called the Valley of the Kings. Lots of other Tombs were found here. Tutankamun’s Tomb was found by an English man called Howard Carter Howard Carter was an archaeologist. He wanted to find out about how people lived in ancient Egypt. Howard Carter

How is Tutankhamun’s funeral different to funerals today? Today, a Funeral is used to celebrate the person who has died and to say goodbye to them. There are many different Funerals depending upon what religion the person believed in. Songs are sung and prayers are said. Tutankhamun did not have a funeral like we have today. The mummifying of his body was like their Funeral.
