He became king when he was young. He had help ruling the country of Egypt when he was young. He married his sister, Ankhesenamun at a young age. Tut’s tomb reveals his love for board games as a child.

3 Years of Reign The same year that King Tut took power, he married Ankhesenamun, his half sister and the daughter of Akhenaten and Nefertiti. Due to King Tut’s young age when he was given power, the first years of his reign were assisted Ay. He was King Tut’s mentor. Ay was assisted by Horemheb, Egypt’s top military leader at the time. King Tut changed his name to Tutankhamun instead of his original name, Tutankhaten, because Tutankhamun meant “the living image of Amun”.

4 Years of Reign Part 2 During his reign, battles took place between Egypt, the Nubians, and Asiatics over territory and control of trade routes. He was trained in the military, however, he didn't fight in the battles. There is evidence that shows that he was a good archer. He ordered that the holy sites shall be repaired and construction shall be continued at the temple of Karnak. He also ordered that the red lions at Soleb shall be repaired.

6 Theories of Death The death of the boy king is a mystery to this day but here are some theories of his passing. One theory of King Tut’s death is that he was in a chariot crash. Possible evidence for this is, damage to the chest, this could have been a horse kick. Another theory is that Ay (King Tut’s grandfather) murdered him in his sleep. One reason Ay might have done this is because with Tut gone he would gain the throne. One more theory is that he broke his leg and it got infected near the time of his death. A possible way he could have broken his leg was in a chariot crash.
