Investigation Notes Testing Properties: Light transmission: Does light pass through the material? Luster: How does light reflect off the material (is it shiny or dull)? Texture: How does the material feel? Flexibility: How easily does the material bend? Hardness: Can the material scratch glass? Reaction to Hydrochloric Acid: Does the material react with the acid?
Physical Property A characteristic observed with the senses; can be observed without changing or trying to change the composition of the substance. (EX: color, shape, length, state)
Chemical Property A characteristic that cannot be observed without altering the substance. Describes how a material reacts with another substance. (EX: flammability, the ability to rust)
