Example of Graduated Rent in THP+FC Monthly Stipend to youth: $600  $200 for rent  $400 for basic living expenses including bills, food, clothing, transportation and other personal expenses  This could be paid out twice a month in halves like the BAYC model or one large monthly payment

How the rent increases over time: option 1 MonthsRent Amount Paid by Youth Amount Saved on Behalf of Youth 1 to 6$ to 12$300$ to 18$400$ to 24$500$300 After 24 monthsRemains at $500$300

How the rent increases over time: option 2 MonthsRent Amount Paid by Youth Amount Saved on Behalf of Youth 1 to 12$ to 18$300$ to 24$400$200 After 24 months$500$300

Advantages of graduated rent  Gives youth real-world information about the cost of housing  Motivates youth to increase income while in program and likely exit with a higher income  Creates saving account for youth at end of the program to be used for security deposit or something else  Places an emphasis that transition into independent living will occur soon
