2 nd Sunday of Advent

The coming of the Lord announces a major change.. the truth will be revealed to all and justice will flourish. We are invited to a profound conversion. Make room for the Messiah who transforms hearts and to its newness which leads to true happiness.

A shoot will sprout... from the stump of Jesse, David's father, an offshoot springing from the roots... Isaiah 11:1-10 This messianic poem is one of the oldest of Isaiah’s prophecies.…

God’s promises are exhilarating animals recognized as predators and prey will live together in harmony. These very beautiful yet unlikely images, announce a profound unity and lasting peace within humanity.

Paul then invites the faithful to welcome each other as Christ welcomed them. Thus, they become signs of the universality of God’s salvation and of His peace.

Like the people gathered around the Baptist, today we are still searching for things that are real. Like the Pharisees and Sadducees, we are sometimes tempted by ease and lack of depth.

We watch telereality, naively believing that all of it is true. We are fond of videos and images which are the product of a scheme defying all likelihood. We tolerate a justice and commissions, which are incapable of allowing truth to triumph. Is there a place for truth in life? Even Christmas seems to have lost its original meaning : the birth of the God child.

The prophet John announces that the Lord comes to judge the world. All will be revealed. He invites us to change our hearts, to transform our habits too well established to make way for something new.

To change for real, is to accept that the Lord make something new with us. As active and convinced Christians, we will never have the opportunity to affirm that all is accomplished. There will always remain dark corners of our existence awaiting the salvation of God, the transformation, the resurrection.

Let us be touched by the truth of the Lord and our life will radiate an astonishing fertility, in the same way as Isaiah’s extraordinary prophetic vision. The God of peace will be able to establish truth and justice in our life, for our greatest happiness.

We are your Church, Lord. Fulfill in us the wonders of your love. May your beauty be our finery, your light, our way. And may your mercy accompany us until we reach your paradise where we will celebrate you forever and ever. Amen.
