INFORMATION Scientific name: alopex lagopus or vulpes lagopus The arctic fox is a mammal The artic fox is 2.3 to 3.5 feet long and have a 12 inch tail. They are 9 to 12 inches tall. The artic fox can weigh 6.5 to 21 pounds. The female is smaller than the male

LIFE IN THE COLD The Artic Fox is a mammal. Its habitat is cold. Its needs to hunt bear and fish. It is a playful animal and can be dangerous too.

FOOD The artic fox eats lots of different foods but their mane priority is the polar bear.

KINDNESS. The artic fox is a kind but dangerous.

HUNTERS. A lot of people try to hunt the artic fox but a lot of people try to save the artic fox.

INTERESTING FACTS The arctic fox has round, compact bodies that minimize surface area that is exposed to the cold air. Its muzzle, ears, and legs are short, which also conserves heat. Arctic foxes also have thick fur on their paws, which allows it to walk on both snow and ice. Arctic foxes change the color of their fur with the seasons. In winter they are white to blend in with the snow, while in the summer they change to brown! One of the most unique and interesting behaviors of Arctic foxes is how they hunt. They have incredible hearing, aided by their wide, front-facing ears, which allow them to locate the precise position of their prey beneath the snow. When the Arctic fox hears its next meal under the snowpack, it leaps into the air and pounces, breaking through the layer of snow right onto the prey beneath.
