Agricultural Science II

 Define the chapter terms on an exam with 90% accuracy.  Describe the proper/safe way to turn the oxyacetylene rig on and off on an exam with 100% accuracy.  Identify the different welding tips on an exam with 90% accuracy.  Demonstrate the safe/proper use of an oxyacetylene welding rig in a laboratory activity with 100% accuracy.

 Why do we need to learn about oxyacetylene torch cutting systems?  Why is it important to understand the steps to start and stop an oxyacetylene torch?  Why is it important to use proper safety techniques while using an oxyacetylene cutting system?

 Check and make sure gauges are at zero and there are no visual problems with the unit  Acetylene FIRST on everything  Crack acetylene cylinder valve  Turn 1/4 turn  Turn on acetylene torch valve all of the way  Set working pressure gauge with regulator to 5 to 7 psi  Turn off acetylene torch valve

 Open oxygen cylinder valve all of the way  Open oxygen torch valve all the way  Set working pressure gauge with regulator to 20 psi  Turn off oxygen torch valve  Crack acetylene torch valve  Light the torch  Add oxygen until distinct cone appears

 Shut acetylene torch valve off first  Then oxygen  Shut off acetylene cylinder valve  Then oxygen  Bleed acetylene lines  Then oxygen  Back out acetylene regulator three turns  Then oxygen

 Wear safety glasses at all times  When starting the rig, wear dark safety glasses or tinted shield  Wear gloves at all times  Make sure you have a good striker

 Acetylene is red  Oxygen is Green  NEVER use Acetylene above 15 PSI ever (5 to 7 for cutting)
