Bridge Working Group

2012 Work Plan Accomplishments Conducted a survey on commonly used deck patching products used by state and contract forces. Sponsored and supporting research initiatives Working on a process for identifying and promoting innovative bridge preservation products, materials, and techniques for use by bridge preservation practitioners Worked with the ETG, TSP-2, T-9, in getting the definition of bridge preservation approved by the Standing Committee on Highways

Focus Areas - Performance Measures Work with other AASHTO Subcommittees and FHWA to promote: 1.The use of bridge element condition assessment 2.Transition a way from the use of structurally deficient measurement 3.Use of a condition-based bridge health index (remove the cost dependency from the current HI calculation) 4.Use of a Good, Fair, Poor measurements or similar grading system 5.Survey the State DOTs to identify current measures used in bridge maintenance, i.e. work backlog; flag systems, etc.

2013 Work Plan Focus Areas - Environment Proposing two research statements: 1.Quantify the environmental benefits of bridge preservation 2.Identify environmental requirements for bridge washing 3.Promote the use of recycled glass as an abrasive blasting medium material in bridge maintenance.

2012 Work Plan Accomplishments General Accomplishments by the PTWG and SCOM Sustained a high level of maintenance interest and involvement in the area of System Preservation. Promoted the Transportation System Preservation Technical Services Program (TSP 2 ) and the Regional Pavement Preservation Partnerships. Promote the utilization of the National Center for Pavement Preservation for research management.

2013 Work Plan 1.Sustain high level of maintenance interest and involvement in the area of System Preservation. 2.Promote the Transportation System Preservation Technical Services Program (TSP 2 ) and the Regional Pavement Preservation Partnerships. 3.Enhance the Internal Communications of the PTWG by: expanding the membership list; improving the address list; and conducting quarterly telephone conference calls and/or webinars. 4.Development and promotion of common performance measures for pavement preservation activities. 5.Work to confirm and enhance the linkage of pavement preservation activities to overall crash reductions.

2013 Work Plan 6.Development and promotion of certification programs for pavement preservation contractors and/or personnel. 7.Support the development and implementation of performance management with asset management tools. 8.Work to develop a guideline that will uniformly define the Remaining Service Life (RSL) of zero for use by our member agencies. 9.Assist in the Implementation of SHRP2 R-26: Pavement Preservation for High Volume Roads.
