Equity and Diversity Education Department Operation Respect / Welcoming Schools Pilot Update
Equity and Diversity Education Department “Say No to Bullying” Bullying has expanded from the face-to-face type to cyber-bullying where the bully may not be seen or even known. The intensity of bullying has been linked to teen suicides, has influenced youths’ perceptions of self-esteem, and has fostered lower attendance rates at schools. In short, bullying has seemingly reached a pinnacle of malice that affects children of all ages. Because of this, we must become familiar with the terms and aware of the circumstances that quantify bullying and cyber-bullying The following definitions are intended to clarify what constitutes bullying, its behaviors, and cyber-bullying: In accordance with Senate Bills 277 and 276, Assembly Bill 138, CCSD’s Policy 5137 (Safe and Respectful Learning Environment), and NRS 388.122 – through 388.135, the Clark County School District has taken a proactive stance against the various types of bullying; physical, verbal, indirect, as well as cyber-bullying. Research has been conducted and steps have been taken to begin a process of antibullying strategies that will ultimately ensure that CCSD students are safe, secure, and confident in their learning environments. We would like to take this opportunity, to provide/share an overview of the various types of bullying, consequences, and resources that we can use together to combat the issues of bullying state wide.
