Open Innovation Meeting April 17, 2015 Proposal involving Technical Board and Cultural Board With Academia Prof. Gautam Biswas, FNA JC Bose National Fellow

Call for Open Innovation Undergraduate students of IITs can be assigned challenging research projects at an early stage so that they can complete the work by the time they graduate. As a result some projects may culminate into complete product. “We must restore the pride and prestige of Science and scientists in our nation; revive the romance for science in society, rekindle the love for it in our children; and, encourage our scientists – to dream, imagine and explore” SHRI NARENDRA MODI Honorable Prime Minister of India The route to Open Innovation has to be Understood and Strategized in a Comprehensive manner

IIT Guwahati Open Innovation Forum Incubation and Entrepreneurship Social Work Innovative Means Music, Dance, Drama, Writing Painting Design (Ceramics, Glass etc) Flexible Electronics ROBOTICS & AUTOMATION Nanotechnology Self Assembly

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Country needs today (Drones are making the rounds in Asia) CSE/ EEE/ ME Autopilots are computer software to control the aircraft. The software reads the aircraft’s current position, and then controls a Flight Control System to guide the trajectory of the aircraft. Can be developed by our UG and PG students working in “Controls” in CSE, EEE and ME Departments Unmanned Aerial Vehicles HQPACK

AEROSPACE/ MECHANICAL/ ELECTRICAL WHAT WHY OUTCOME Technology Solutions for Micro Air Vehicle Development Enhancement of Wind Tunnel Testing Capabilities large number of civilian applications including search and rescue, disaster management traffic monitoring etc Developing aircraft with lower ownership and maintenance costs and reduced fuel consumption Design, develop, fabricate and flight test of sub 200 mm class of fixed and flapping wing MAV’s. Technologies in the areas of avionics and flight controls, aerodynamics and aero-acoustics, advanced materials, propulsion, structural analysis.

ENVIRONMENT (CHEMICAL/ BSBE/ CIVIL) WHAT WHY OUTCOME Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan Clean Water In Villages Waste Utilization & Management To provide pollution free ambience to different regions of the country Providing adequate clean drinking water based on scientific and technological advancements To develop globally competitive, innovative processes and technologies Industry specific cleaner emissions technology packages for highly air polluting industries, viz. thermal power, steel etc. Demonstration of artificial recharge technique, grey water recycling, recovery and recycle of industrial & domestic wastewater as well as water body rejuvenation for scarcity reduction Molecular Environmental and Energy Technologies (MEET)

CERAMICS, GLASS & MATERIALS (CHEMICAL/ ME/ EEE/ DESIGN) WHAT WHY OUTCOME Specialty Glass and Optical Fibre Technologies for Engineering, Medical and Energy Applications Development of Novel Technology for Manufacturing Tailored and Patient-Specific Bio-Ceramic Implants and Biomedical Devices at Affordable Cost (ME Dept. has made a terrific start) To develop indigenous capability for meeting civil and strategic needs of the country with the promise of global leadership. To develop indigenous implants and prosthesis primarily for providing affordable health care services to the citizens Package all fibre CW/pulsed kW level laser modules (for micro-machining, automated manufacturing, jewellery polishing, medical treatment, solar cell fabrication State-of-the-art orthopaedic implants like functionally graded hip, knee, elbow, finger joints and fillers for trauma, craniofacial and maxillofacial surgeries including patient specific joints using rapid manufacturing technology

ROBOTICS & AUTOMATION (EEE/ ME/ CSE/ MATHS) WHAT WHY OUTCOME Robotics and Micro Machines To develop cutting edge Robotic systems including mobile robotics, underwater robotics, micro machines and devices with multi functional capabilities. Balance both Sides of the Brain

Power (to empower with intellect) Education is cultivation of four main axioms Knowledge (not to instruct but to impart it) Love (love for humanity) Beauty (beauty is in the eye of man to see every child beautiful Power (to empower with intellect)

riSHI aurobindo on education The main functions of education can be summarized as follows. To bring out the real man in oneself To build the power of the human mind and spirit i.e. evoking of knowledge, character and culture To enable the individual to establish a clear continuity between the past, present and future. To enable the individual to establish right relationship within himself and outside-world.

Integral education True education, is not only spiritual but also rational, vital and physical. Education to be complete must have five principal aspects relating to the five principal activities of human being: physical vital mental psychic Spiritual This education is complete complimentary to each other and continued till the end of life

yoga Meditation is an act to concentrate mind on a single train of ideas which work out a single subject. The first internal condition necessary is concentration of the will against the obstacles to meditation. The second is to be free from all disturbing reactions such as anger, grief, depression, anxiety etc The object of an integral yoga is self perfection

Drama/ Cinema/ Painting Creativity is cultivation of various cognitive senses Dance form Music: Vocal Instruments Various Languages Creative Writing Drama/ Cinema/ Painting
