The Others takes all the traditional ingredients you'd expect to find in a horror film: the imposing isolated mansion perpetually shrouded in fog; mysterious noises; creepy servants, it even has the classic self-playing piano, and yet despite this it still manages to come up with enough original twists to keep you on the edge of your seat and occasionally scare you out of it. Catharsis is a word I often use to describe why I love horror films. The fear and the tension build up, like an ocean wave, and then recede back from where they came, taking whatever else was laying on the beach of my mind, leaving me relaxed and calm... a blank slate of sand. With all the horror films I see, however, it becomes harder and harder to achieve this state. The Others provided catharsis for the first time in a great while, and also gave me another gift: my first scream ever. The Others - film review snippets

Simple, Compound and Complex The Others is a fantastic gothic film. The Others is a thrill a minute but Nicole Kidman is anything but fun in this role. Th e Others, which was written and directed by Alejandro Amenabar, is an edge of the seat thriller.
