Ohio PHAB Survey Results Bringing Together Ohio Local Health Departments on their Journey to PHAB Accreditation

This survey was conducted by the Ohio Public Health Association (OPHA), the Association of Ohio Health Commissioners (AOHC), and the Ohio Department of Health (ODH). The project is funded through a grant to OPHA from the American Public Health Association. For further information on data, please contact Amy Holthusen at or OHPA/APHA

Documentation – “You most likely have more documents than you think. They just need to be updated for PHAB standards (dates, labels)” – “Keep s.” Benefits – “While it is time consuming, it does make you a better health department. Summary 61% survey response; generally representative of Ohio LHDs The largest number of respondents are in the “moderate” readiness category, followed by “low”, then “high” readiness Respondents are moderately familiar with national accreditation; greater readiness corresponds with greater familiarity Respondents have received useful information from AOHC newsletters, NACCHO, and friends/colleagues. Health departments with high readiness were most likely to have used the PHAB website OHPA/APHA

Summary Most LHDs have discussed accreditation at staff meetings; almost half have attended workshops/conferences Highest barriers to accreditation are cost and time commitment Respondents need help with accessing sample documents, accessing best practices in the PHAB domain, and training on the accreditation process OHPA/APHA
