Comparison between Accredited and Satellite Membership: Requirements Accredited Membership Must meet ALL 10 Standards for Accreditation: Multidisciplinary Team, Cultural Competency, Forensic Interviews, Victim Support and Advocacy, Medical Evaluation, Mental Health, Case Review, Case Tracking, Organizational Capacity, Child Focused Setting Satellite Membership The Satellite must have a child focused setting/facility and provide onsite forensic interviews and advocacy services. These three requirements must meet the NCA standards for accreditation. The Host CAC (holding NCA Accreditation) must be accredited prior to satellite application. And, the Host CAC is responsible for the application process of any satellite. The Host CAC must demonstrate coordination with its Chapter during the planning process. The Chapter must provide requested technical assistance to the Host CAC during the planning process. The Host CAC must demonstrate how the satellite links to their NCA- approved chapter growth plan and does not duplicate service coverage of any existing Accredited or Developing/Associate Center. The Host CAC must conduct a needs assessment and feasibility survey which must demonstrate local support and outcomes. The Host CAC must demonstrate governance of the satellite site. The Satellite CAC must have the capacity for the provision of medical and mental health services on-site or through linkages in the local community. Host CAC must demonstrate agreements (MOUs) with partner agency representatives from the Satellite CAC service area. The Host CAC must demonstrate case review and tracking systems that identify children specific to the Satellite location. The Satellite must demonstrate designated staff that coordinates the response and provision of services. The Host CAC must remain in good standing with NCA, inclusive of its Satellite.

Chapter Role in Satellite Process Membership Application ▫Required recommendation and assistance from your Chapter: Questions on Narrative “Please provide information on how the new Satellite links to the NCA-approved chapter growth plan and does not duplicate service coverage of any existing Accredited, associate/developing or affiliate center.” “In order to process your application for Satellite membership, a letter of recommendation from an NCA chapter in your state is required. This letter must directly reference the applicant’s readiness for Satellite membership. You may also include letters of recommendation from Accredited NCA members, a member of the NCA Board of Directors, or the Director of your Regional Children’s Advocacy Center, but these will not supplant the required letter from the NCA chapter. (However, If your state does not have an NCA recognized chapter, a letter from your Regional CAC will suffice.)” The Chapter representative will be requested to participate in a conference call with NCA staff and the agency representative. Grant Application ▫Program Development- Chapter must submit letter of recommendation for the Host CAC application supporting their work to apply for Satellite Membership
Regional CAC Role in Satellite Process Provide technical assistance to the applying entities for any needed trainings, sample documents, consultations, etc. Western Regional Toolkit for NCA Satellite Membership- www.wrcactoolkit.org www.wrcactoolkit.org Providing required letter of recommendation in those states in which there is no NCA recognized Chapter
Considerations for Applying for Satellite Membership with NCA The Host CAC is stable, in good standing with NCA and the provision of services meets the accreditation requirements. The Satellite member could be developed within the existing service area of the host CAC in order to: ▫Decrease/make management the travel time for clients ▫Provide full scope of services to underserved areas ▫Improve the provision of services in those areas by establishing stronger ties with the local community and thus enhancing the funding opportunities Example: an existing host agency that is covering 17 counties and requesting opening 2 Satellite centers that will cover the furthest counties The Satellite member could be developed outside the existing service area of the host CAC in order to: ▫To provide services to previously unserved areas
